Senior year is full of milestones, memories, and big emotions — and your senior photos should capture every bit of it. Whether you're a student or a parent helping plan, I’m here to make this experience fun, stress-free, and meaningful from start to finish.
This guide is designed to help you feel confident and prepared for your session with Karli Kay Photography. Let’s dive in!
1. Choose the Perfect Location
Colorado is filled with stunning spots for senior photos! Here are a few of my favorites:
Garden of the Gods – epic red rocks and golden light
Castlewood Canyon – natural, earthy tones and rustic charm
Paint Mines Interpretive Park – one-of-a-kind colorful rock formations
Elizabeth Open Spaces – peaceful, nature-filled backdrops close to home
Palmer Park & Ute Valley Park (Colorado Springs) – views, wildflowers, and golden grass
17 Mile House Farm Park (Parker, CO) – classic barns, rustic fences, and wide open fields perfect for a timeless country feel
✨ Think about what setting reflects your personality: adventurous, artistic, natural, or modern?
2. Plan Your Outfits Ahead of Time
Outfits can really elevate your session! Here are a few tips:
Bring multiple outfit options: something casual, something dressy, and something unique to you (like sports gear, boots, or a favorite jacket).
Stick with neutral tones or earthy colors for a timeless, flattering look.
Avoid logos, neon colors, or tiny patterns — they can distract from your face.
Don’t forget the details: clean shoes, accessories, and neat nails make a difference!
Pack your outfits with hangers to keep them wrinkle-free, and bring a small bag for touch-up items (lip balm, hairbrush, etc.)
3. Timing is Everything
The best light happens during golden hour — that dreamy time right before sunset. I’ll help choose the perfect time for your session based on your location and the season.
Trust me — lighting makes a huge difference, and I’ll guide you to make sure you look your best.
4. Don’t Stress About Posing
You do not have to know what to do in front of the camera. I’ll walk you through everything — from where to put your hands to prompts that bring out real, joyful expressions.
This is about more than photos. It’s about capturing the real you — your confidence, your journey, your story.
5. Bring What Matters
Want to include something meaningful in your photos?
A Bible or devotional
Cap & gown
Sports gear or instruments
A letterman jacket or team jersey
A book, bouquet, or meaningful keepsake
Let’s make these photos yours.
